The Hire Road
Last month’s article told how to get a free copy of your credit report.
If you obtained your report and it is incorrect, you will want to have
the information corrected.

For whatever reason, many drivers have been requesting their credit
report from DOTJobHistory recently and that is not a service we offer.
However, there is an easy way to get your credit report and I would

I help drivers get their DAC report fast so they may correct errors,
more easily complete employment applications, store it securely on-line
and provide tools so the information can be used by
drivers to get a
job.Interestingly, one of the more common questions I get doesn’t deal with
the above, but instead is more basic: “Exactly what’s on a DAC?”

When you apply for a commercial driving job, federal regulations
require your prospective employer to perform a background
investigation. Many trucking companies (and most of the largest) use a
private company to help them obtain this information. The most used
company is USIS, previously known as DAC Services.

If you have a negative on your driving, employment or criminal record,
these three sentences may not get you through. As discussed in last
month’s column, I am frequently asked if a particular “negative” will
keep someone from getting a good driving job. The negative can range
anywhere from a speeding ticket, to a criminal offense, to load
abandonment to a no-fault accident.
